Telum Therapeutics is developing a preclinical-stage protein biologic using its proprietary APEXp platform, which integrates synthetic biology and artificial intelligence. This drug candidate consists of Engineered Phage Lytic Proteins (EPLEs) specifically designed to target vancomycin-resistant *Enterococcus faecium* (VRE). The mechanism of action involves the enzymatic degradation of the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan, which leads to rapid bacteriolysis of the pathogen. This therapy is intended for the treatment of nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections caused by multi-resistant VRE, addressing a critical need on the WHO list of priority pathogens.
