temazepam

Temazepam is a benzodiazepine used primarily for the short-term treatment of insomnia, including difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. It acts by enhancing the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, at the GABA-A receptor in the brain. This results in sedative, anxiolytic, muscle relaxant, and anticonvulsant effects. Temazepam is typically administered orally as a capsule and is intended for use over brief periods (generally 7–10 days) due to risks of dependence and tolerance. It may also be used as premedication before surgical or dental procedures to induce relaxation.
