Overview

Temelimab is a first-in-class, humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody developed to target the envelope protein of the human endogenous retrovirus type W (HERV-W Env), also known as MSRV-Env or syncytin-1. This viral protein is implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and other autoimmune diseases. By neutralizing HERV-W Env, temelimab aims to reduce neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration associated with these conditions. The drug has demonstrated safety and tolerability in phase I and II clinical trials for MS, with additional development in post-acute COVID-19 syndrome and previous investigation in type 1 diabetes mellitus[2][5][8]. Temelimab is being developed by GeNeuro.
