Temocapril

Temocapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used primarily for the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, diabetic nephropathy, and to improve prognosis in coronary artery diseases including acute myocardial infarction. It is administered as a prodrug and converted in vivo to its active metabolite, temocaprilat. Temocaprilat inhibits ACE more potently than enalaprilat and acts by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II—a potent vasoconstrictor—thereby reducing blood pressure through vasodilation. Additionally, it increases bradykinin levels by inhibiting its degradation. Temocapril has a rapid onset of action and tighter vascular ACE binding compared to some other ACE inhibitors. The drug was patented in 1984 and approved for medical use in 1994; it is marketed mainly in Japan and South Korea but not approved for use in the United States[2][3][5][6][8].
