Tempol is a stable nitroxide radical and small molecule antioxidant with superoxide dismutase (SOD)-mimetic activity. It efficiently neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS), catalyzes the disproportionation of superoxide anions, facilitates hydrogen peroxide metabolism, and inhibits Fenton chemistry. Tempol has been investigated for its potential to protect normal tissues from chemotherapy and radiation-induced toxicities by scavenging free radicals in oxygenated cells. It has also shown anti-proliferative and radio-protective properties in preclinical studies. Its primary mechanism involves acting as a general ROS scavenger rather than targeting specific proteins or receptors[1][7][8].
