Overview

Tenascin antibody refers to a class of monoclonal antibodies targeting tenascin, a large extracellular matrix glycoprotein. Tenascin-C (TNC), the most studied isoform, is transiently expressed during embryogenesis and wound healing but is highly upregulated in the stroma of various cancers, including cervical, breast, and colon carcinomas, where it is associated with the desmoplastic reaction and tumor invasion. These antibodies are primarily used as diagnostic tools in immunohistochemistry (IHC)—such as the TN2M636 clone—to distinguish between pre-invasive lesions and invasive squamous cell carcinoma by identifying marked increases in stromal tenascin expression. In the therapeutic pipeline, tenascin antibodies are being developed as targeting agents for radioimmunotherapy and immunocytokines (e.g., F16-IL2) to deliver cytotoxic or immune-modulating payloads directly to the tumor microenvironment.
