Overview

Tendon-differentiated amniotic epithelial stem cells are an advanced cell therapy product derived from the amniotic membrane of the placenta. These cells are subjected to specific in vitro differentiation protocols—often utilizing growth factors such as Growth Differentiation Factor 5 (GDF-5) or mechanical stimulation—to adopt a tenocyte-like phenotype prior to clinical application. Once transplanted into a tendon lesion, they function through a dual mechanism: direct integration into the host tissue to produce essential extracellular matrix components like Collagen Type I and Tenomodulin, and the release of paracrine factors that modulate the local inflammatory environment. This approach aims to promote functional tissue regeneration and restore mechanical strength while minimizing the formation of fibrotic scar tissue, making it a promising candidate for treating Achilles tendon ruptures and chronic tendinopathies.
