Overview

Tenebrio molitor trypsin hydrolysate (TMTH) is a bioactive peptide mixture derived from the enzymatic hydrolysis of yellow mealworm (*Tenebrio molitor*) larvae using trypsin. It is being investigated as a natural therapeutic agent for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, specifically atopic dermatitis. TMTH exerts its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects by suppressing the TLR-mediated MyD88-dependent MAPK signaling pathway. Preclinical studies in mouse models have shown that oral administration of TMTH significantly reduces serum IgE levels, inhibits mast cell infiltration, and decreases both epidermal and dermal thickness in 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNCB)-induced lesions. By modulating the immune response and reducing the expression of inflammatory mediators, TMTH serves as a potential insect-derived pharmaceutical or nutraceutical candidate for managing chronic skin inflammation.
