Teneligliptin is an oral antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in adults. It belongs to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, also known as "gliptins." Developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma in Japan and introduced in 2012, teneligliptin features a unique J-shaped molecular structure with five consecutive rings that enhance its potency and selectivity for DPP-4. By inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, it increases levels of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which stimulates insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release from the pancreas. This dual action results in improved glycemic control without significant risk of hypoglycemia or weight gain. Teneligliptin is effective both as monotherapy and in combination with other antidiabetic agents[1][3][5][6].
