Overview
Teng-Long-Bu-Zhong-Tang (TLBZT) + oxaliplatin + capecitabine is a combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. TLBZT is a modern Chinese herbal formula developed by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, composed of eight herbs designed to tonify the spleen, overcome dampness, and detoxify. Preclinical studies indicate that TLBZT exerts anti-metastatic effects by inhibiting the HIF1α-LOX and integrin αVβ3-FAK signal transduction pathways, inducing cell senescence, and promoting apoptosis. This herbal decoction is used as an adjunct to standard small molecule chemotherapy consisting of oxaliplatin, a platinum-based agent that forms DNA cross-links, and capecitabine, an oral prodrug of 5-fluorouracil that inhibits thymidylate synthase. The combination aims to improve clinical outcomes and mitigate the side effects of conventional chemotherapy in patients with advanced colorectal cancer.
