Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tenghuang Jiangu is a Chinese patent medicine and traditional herbal formulation widely used for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as knee osteoarthritis (KOA), hyperostosis, Kashin-Beck disease, spondylitis, and spondylosis. It is available in several forms including tablets (THJGT), pills/wans (THJGW), and formulae (THJGF). The preparation contains a complex mixture of herbal ingredients—over 130 compounds have been identified—including flavonoids, iridoid glycosides, phenylethanoid glycosides, phenylpropanoids, organic acids and other phytochemicals. Mechanistically it acts by modulating inflammatory pathways relevant to osteoarthritis pathogenesis; key molecular targets include IL-6 signaling via STAT3 inhibition and suppression of NF-κB p65 activity. Clinical studies demonstrate that it improves pain and stiffness in KOA patients with a favorable safety profile compared to conventional treatments[1][2][3][5]. It has been approved for use in China since at least 2009 for multiple bone/joint diseases[6].
