Drug intelligence / Profile preview
tenofovir + emtricitabine + abacavir is a fixed-dose combination of three antiretroviral agents used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. The combination includes tenofovir (a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor, NtRTI), emtricitabine (a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, NRTI), and abacavir (a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, NRTI). These drugs work by inhibiting the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is responsible for converting viral RNA into DNA. By acting as chain terminators and competing with natural deoxynucleotides for incorporation into viral DNA, they prevent the elongation of the viral DNA strand, thereby halting viral replication. This product is distributed by Salud Pharma as part of its portfolio of generic specialized medications in Panama.
