Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate + lamivudine + efavirenz is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication used as a complete regimen for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 35 kg. The combination contains three active ingredients with distinct mechanisms of action targeting HIV reverse transcriptase. Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), while both lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate are nucleo(t)side reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Together, these agents inhibit HIV replication by blocking the activity of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme essential for viral replication. This regimen does not cure HIV but helps suppress viral load and delay disease progression[4][5][7][8].
