Tensionorme

Tensionorme is a fixed-dose combination cardiovascular medication developed and marketed by Ethyx Pharmaceuticals. It contains two active ingredients: bendroflumethiazide, a thiazide diuretic, and reserpine, an antihypertensive agent derived from Rauwolfia alkaloids. Bendroflumethiazide works by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney, leading to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water, thereby reducing blood volume. Reserpine acts by irreversibly binding to the vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT), which prevents the uptake of neurotransmitters like norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin into synaptic vesicles. This leads to the depletion of catecholamines in both peripheral and central nerve terminals, resulting in decreased peripheral vascular resistance and heart rate. Tensionorme is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults, particularly for patients who are eligible for triple therapy including a diuretic or those who have shown intolerance to reference treatments.
