Overview

Tenuin B is a naturally occurring phenanthrene small molecule isolated from the slender rush, *Juncus tenuis*. It was identified as part of a series of novel phenanthrenes (tenuins A-E) characterized for their potential anticancer properties. While some related phenanthrenes exhibit direct antiproliferative activity, tenuin B is specifically recognized for its potent chemosensitizing effects. In preclinical research, tenuin B demonstrated highly potent synergism when combined with doxorubicin against doxorubicin-resistant human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells (COLO 320), suggesting its potential as a lead compound for overcoming multidrug resistance in colorectal cancer therapy.
