Tenuin C is a phenanthrene monomer isolated from the plant *Juncus tenuis* (slender rush). It was identified as part of a phytochemical study of the Juncaceae family aimed at discovering new bioactive secondary metabolites. Tenuin C has been evaluated for its antiproliferative activity against human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, including both doxorubicin-sensitive (COLO 205) and doxorubicin-resistant (COLO 320) strains. While other related phenanthrenes from the same source, such as the diphenanthrenes tenuin D and tenuin E, demonstrated higher potency in initial assays, tenuin C remains a subject of interest in the search for natural products that can address multidrug resistance in cancer therapy.
