Tenuin D is a naturally occurring phenanthrene dimer isolated from the plant *Juncus tenuis*, a member of the Juncaceae family. It is one of several bioactive phenanthrenes identified for their potential therapeutic properties. In preclinical research, tenuin D has demonstrated significant antiproliferative activity against human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, including both doxorubicin-sensitive (COLO 205) and doxorubicin-resistant (COLO 320) strains, with IC50 values observed in the micromolar range (approximately 7.60 to 17.32 μM). However, the compound has shown a lack of selectivity, exhibiting similar inhibitory effects on non-tumorigenic human fibroblast cells. It is primarily investigated in the context of natural product discovery and oncology research for overcoming multidrug resistance.
