Tenvir

Tenvir is an antiviral medication containing tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). It is primarily used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. As a prodrug, it is converted intracellularly to tenofovir diphosphate, which acts as an analog of deoxyadenosine 5'-triphosphate. It competes with the natural substrate for incorporation into viral DNA via the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase or HBV polymerase enzymes. Once incorporated, it causes viral DNA chain termination because it lacks the 3'-hydroxyl group necessary for further phosphodiester bond formation. Tenvir is distributed by Magicine Pharma and is part of the ARECHAR product portfolio, serving as a critical component of antiretroviral therapy (ART) to reduce viral load and improve immune function.
