Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Teoritin is a small molecule antihistamine developed and marketed by Valenta Pharmaceuticals. It functions as a selective antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor, providing effective relief from allergic symptoms without the significant sedative effects associated with first-generation antihistamines. The drug is specifically indicated for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria. Teoritin belongs to a unique class of quinuclidine-based antihistamines (sekhifenadine) that, in addition to receptor blockade, are reported to lower systemic histamine levels by inducing the activity of the enzyme diaminoxidase (histaminase). It was launched in the Russian market as a novel therapeutic option with no direct analogues at the time of its introduction.
