Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tepilta is an oral suspension fixed-combination product containing the local anesthetic oxetacaine (oxethazaine) and antacids (aluminum hydroxide plus magnesium hydroxide), developed to treat pain and inflammation of the esophagus, particularly radiation-induced esophagitis.[7][11] Oxetacaine is a potent, long-acting topical anesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in peripheral sensory nerves in the upper gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing pain perception, while the antacid components neutralize gastric acid and provide mucosal protection.[5][7][11] The product has been evaluated in a double-blind randomized clinical trial to demonstrate superior efficacy of the combination versus its individual components and placebo in patients with radiation-induced esophagitis.[7][11]
