Tepoxalin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) approved for veterinary use, primarily in dogs and occasionally in cats. It is used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia. Tepoxalin acts as a dual inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX, especially COX‑2) and lipoxygenase (5‑LOX), thereby suppressing the biosynthesis of both prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are key mediators of inflammation. The drug is administered orally, typically once daily due to its pharmacokinetics—rapid absorption with a short plasma half-life but prolonged activity from its active metabolite[1][2][4][7]. Zubrin tablets rapidly disintegrate in the mouth for ease of administration to animals.
