Terbicol

Terbicol is a terbinafine-based antifungal shampoo developed by Dermal Laboratories for the topical treatment of severe dandruff (pityriasis capitis) and seborrhoeic dermatitis. The active ingredient, terbinafine, is a small molecule allylamine that acts by inhibiting squalene epoxidase (squalene monooxygenase), a key enzyme in the fungal ergosterol biosynthetic pathway. This inhibition leads to a deficiency in ergosterol and an accumulation of squalene within the fungal cell, resulting in membrane disruption and cell death. Terbicol was investigated in a Phase 2 clinical trial in the United Kingdom to assess its efficacy and safety when used twice weekly in patients with Malassezia-related scalp conditions.
