Overview

Terminalia macroptera aqueous extract (AETM) is a botanical extract derived from the *Terminalia macroptera* tree, a medicinal plant native to West Africa. It is being investigated for its neuroprotective potential, particularly in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The extract exhibits significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which are thought to mediate its therapeutic effects. In preclinical models, AETM has demonstrated the ability to restore dopamine levels, enhance motor performance, and preserve the integrity of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Its mechanism involves the restoration of antioxidant enzyme activities (such as superoxide dismutase and catalase) and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α.
