TERN-800

TERN-800 is an investigational, oral, small-molecule antagonist of the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor (GIPR), being developed by Terns Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of obesity. The drug is part of a broader "TERN-800 series" focused on GIPR modulation. GIPR antagonists are designed to block the action of endogenous GIP, a gut hormone involved in energy balance and fat storage. Preclinical and early research suggest that antagonizing GIPR may enhance weight loss, especially when combined with GLP-1 receptor agonists—another class of anti-obesity drugs—potentially leading to greater reductions in body weight and fat mass than either mechanism alone.
