Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Terossa is a biosimilar version of teriparatide, a recombinant human parathyroid hormone (PTH) fragment consisting of the first 34 amino acids. It acts as an anabolic agent that stimulates bone formation by primary action on osteoblasts. Terossa is approved for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men at increased risk of fracture, as well as for glucocorticoid-associated osteoporosis. In the context of clinical research led by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, it is being evaluated in Phase 3 pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies to determine sex-based differences in response, specifically aimed at its potential application for the prevention or treatment of stress fractures in high-strain populations such as military recruits.
