Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Terpene-enriched cannabis oil is an investigational medical cannabis formulation developed by Bazelet to address the loss of volatile terpenes that occurs during standard extraction processes. Standard cannabis extraction often depletes up to 90% of the plant's natural monoterpenes and monoterpenoids, potentially reducing the therapeutic efficacy of the resulting oil compared to inhaled inflorescences (the 'entourage effect'). By re-introducing specifically selected terpenes into the cannabinoid-standardized oil, this formulation aims to restore or enhance the synergistic therapeutic effects of the plant. It is being evaluated in clinical trials for the management of chronic pain and acute radicular pain, where it has demonstrated potential opioid-sparing effects.
