Overview
Terpinen-4-ol is a naturally occurring monoterpenoid alcohol and a primary constituent of tea tree oil. It is found in the leaves and extracts of *Melaleuca alternifolia* (tea tree) and other plants such as *Juniperus communis*. Terpinen-4-ol exhibits antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiparasitic, antineoplastic (anti-cancer), and apoptosis-inducing properties. Its mechanism of action includes induction of cell death in cancer cells and modulation of inflammatory mediators such as TNF-alpha and interleukins. It has demonstrated significant growth inhibition in various cancer cell lines (colorectal, pancreatic, prostate, gastric) both alone and synergistically with chemotherapeutic agents. Terpinen-4-ol also shows antibiofilm activity against *Staphylococcus aureus* strains[1][3][5][6]. Despite promising preclinical data for several indications including oncology and infectious diseases, its clinical use remains investigational[2][3][6].
