Recent research presented at the ATS 2025 conference highlights its potential as a bronchodilator for the treatment of obstructive airway diseases such as asthma. Terpinolene works by relaxing airway smooth muscle (ASM) through the inhibition of contractile agonist-induced phosphorylation of myosin light chain 20 (pMLC20). Additionally, it demonstrates a synergistic effect when used in combination with beta-2 adrenergic receptor (B2AR) agonists like isoproterenol, significantly potentiating their muscle-relaxing properties. This dual action suggests that terpinolene could serve as a novel therapeutic component or adjunct in respiratory care.
