Overview

TERT-572 is a peptide-based cancer vaccine derived from the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) protein, specifically encompassing the amino acid sequence 572-580 (RLFFYRKSV). It is identified as a cryptic HLA-A*0201-restricted epitope, meaning it is naturally processed and presented at low levels, potentially allowing it to bypass central immune tolerance. Developed by Vaxon Biotech, the vaccine is typically administered in combination with the adjuvant Montanide ISA51. It is often used in a sequential immunization protocol with its optimized heteroclitic variant, TERT(572Y), to enhance the induction of specific CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). These CTLs are designed to recognize and eliminate telomerase-expressing cancer cells, which are prevalent in a wide range of advanced solid tumors and hematological malignancies.
