Tertomotide (GV1001) is a 16-amino acid peptide vaccine derived from the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) catalytic subunit. Developed by GemVax & KAEL, it was originally designed as an active immunotherapy for telomerase-expressing cancers, such as pancreatic and prostate cancer. In the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), tertomotide functions by binding to androgen receptors and inhibiting the 5α-reductase enzyme, which leads to a reduction in prostate gland size and the alleviation of lower urinary tract symptoms. Additionally, it exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The drug is administered via intradermal or subcutaneous injection and has undergone Phase 3 clinical testing for BPH.
