terutroban

Terutroban is a small molecule, orally active antiplatelet agent that was developed by Servier. It functions as a selective antagonist of the thromboxane prostanoid (TP) receptor, blocking the actions of thromboxane A2 (TXA2) to inhibit platelet aggregation and provide vasoprotective effects. The drug was primarily evaluated for the secondary prevention of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events in patients with a history of ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). However, the pivotal Phase III PERFORM trial was halted early in 2010 after terutroban failed to show non-inferiority compared to aspirin, leading to the discontinuation of its clinical development.
