Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The testosterone TEPI patch is a novel transdermal drug delivery system designed to provide hormone replacement therapy for women, particularly those experiencing post-menopausal symptoms. It utilizes Medherant's proprietary TEPI (Transdermal Epidermal Patch Innovation) technology to deliver controlled doses of testosterone through the skin. The patch is specifically formulated to deliver appropriate testosterone doses for women, addressing the gap in available treatments for post-menopausal women with low libido. The TEPI technology creates patches that are thin, flexible, comfortable, moisture-resistant, and have superior adhesion properties even when wet for up to 10 days. Unlike other transdermal delivery methods, these patches don't leave residue on the skin when removed and provide better dose control compared to gels and creams. The mechanism of action is through the androgen receptor, acting as an agonist. The patch was developed by Professor David Haddleton and the University of Warwick and is being manufactured by Medherant. As of April 2023, Medherant secured £2.9 million in funding to progress the development of this patch into clinical development. Data from a Phase I pharmacokinetic study was expected by the end of 2023.
