Tetagrip is a combination vaccine composed of inactivated influenza virus antigens and tetanus toxoid. Developed by Sanofi Pasteur, it is designed to provide simultaneous active immunization against seasonal influenza and tetanus. The vaccine traditionally contains hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens from circulating influenza A and B strains, alongside purified tetanus toxin that has been detoxified (toxoid). While the standard clinical application is via intramuscular injection to elicit a humoral immune response characterized by neutralizing antibodies, specialized clinical research has investigated Tetagrip for transcutaneous delivery. This alternative route aims to target hair follicles and Langerhans cells to preferentially induce vaccine-specific CD8+ T-cell responses, which may be beneficial in managing complex infectious diseases or in immunocompromised populations such as those with HIV.
