The tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis-polio vaccine is a quadrivalent combination biologic used for booster immunization against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and poliomyelitis. Developed by companies such as GSK (as Boostrix IPV) and Sanofi (as Repevax), the vaccine contains reduced-antigen-content diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (including pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), and inactivated poliovirus (IPV) types 1, 2, and 3. It functions by stimulating the production of specific antibodies and cellular immune responses against the toxins of Clostridium tetani and Corynebacterium diphtheriae, the surface antigens of Bordetella pertussis, and the three types of poliovirus. It is primarily indicated for adolescents and adults who have previously received a primary vaccination series to ensure continued protection against these four infectious diseases.
