Overview

Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids adsorbed is a fixed-combination vaccine containing inactivated (toxoid) forms of the toxins produced by *Clostridium tetani* (tetanus) and *Corynebacterium diphtheriae* (diphtheria), which are adsorbed onto an aluminum adjuvant to enhance immune response. The vaccine is indicated for active immunization against both diseases. It works by stimulating the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that protect against future infections with these bacteria. There are two main formulations: DT (for children under 7 years old) contains a higher dose of diphtheria toxoid; Td (for individuals 7 years or older) contains a lower dose of diphtheria toxoid[1][3][4][5]. The primary indication is prevention of tetanus ("lockjaw") and diphtheria through routine childhood vaccination or booster doses in adults[2][4].
