Tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis-inactivated poliovirus vaccine (Tdap-IPV) is a combination booster vaccine indicated for active immunization against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and poliomyelitis. It is typically administered to adolescents and adults who have previously received a primary vaccination series. The vaccine contains tetanus and diphtheria toxoids, acellular pertussis components (such as pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), and inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. By introducing these antigens, the vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies and establish immunological memory, providing long-term protection against the toxins produced by Clostridium tetani and Corynebacterium diphtheriae, the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, and the three serotypes of poliovirus. Common brand names include Repevax and Boostrix-Polio.
