Overview

Tetanus peptide refers to synthetic peptide sequences derived from the tetanus toxoid protein produced by *Clostridium tetani*. These peptides, most notably the universal T-cell epitopes P2 (amino acids 830–844) and P30 (amino acids 947–967), are widely used in clinical vaccinology and cancer immunotherapy as "helper" components. Because most individuals have pre-existing immune memory from childhood tetanus vaccinations, these peptides can bind to a broad range of MHC class II molecules and stimulate CD4+ helper T-lymphocytes (HTLs). In the context of multi-peptide cancer vaccines, co-administration of a tetanus peptide provides the necessary cytokine environment and T-cell help to augment the activation and expansion of CD8+ cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) against tumor-associated antigens.
