Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Tetanus toxoid** is a detoxified, nonpathogenic form of tetanospasmin, the neurotoxin produced by *Clostridium tetani*. It is used as an active-immunization antigen to induce toxin-neutralizing antibodies and immunologic memory that prevent tetanus; vaccine products containing tetanus toxoid are commonly adsorbed to aluminum salts and are often supplied in combination with diphtheria and/or pertussis antigens. In the United States, routine tetanus protection is generally delivered through DTaP, Tdap, or Td combination vaccines rather than monovalent tetanus-toxoid products.
