Tetanus toxoid + reduced diphtheria toxoid + acellular pertussis vaccine (commonly known as Tdap) is a combination immunization used to protect against three serious bacterial diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). The "reduced" designation refers to the lower amount of diphtheria and pertussis antigens compared to pediatric formulations. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the toxins produced by *Clostridium tetani* (tetanus), *Corynebacterium diphtheriae* (diphtheria), and *Bordetella pertussis* (pertussis). This provides active immunity by priming the immune system for rapid response upon exposure. Tdap is primarily indicated for booster immunization in adolescents and adults who have previously completed a primary DTaP series in childhood. It is also recommended during pregnancy to protect newborns from pertussis[1][3][4][7].
