Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tdap is a combination vaccine composed of tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis antigens. While traditionally used for active immunization against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, it is being investigated by Mindful Diagnostics and Therapeutics, LLC in the 'Tdap PANDA' pilot study for its potential impact on Alzheimer's disease. The research explores whether Tdap vaccination can influence plasma-based Alzheimer's biomarkers, including amyloid-beta, tau, and neurofilament light protein (NfL), as well as various immune parameters. This repurposing effort is driven by epidemiological data suggesting that certain adult vaccinations are associated with a reduced risk of developing dementia. The study specifically targets adults aged 50 to 80 who are out of compliance for their standard Tdap booster.
