Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tetanus Vaccine (Adsorbed) is a monovalent toxoid vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics for the prevention of tetanus. It is composed of purified tetanus toxoid, which is the formaldehyde-inactivated form of the toxin produced by *Clostridium tetani*, adsorbed onto an aluminum-based adjuvant (typically aluminum hydroxide) to enhance its immunogenicity. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce specific neutralizing IgG antibodies (antitoxins) that target the tetanospasmin toxin, thereby preventing the neurotoxic effects associated with tetanus infection. It is primarily indicated for active immunization against tetanus in adults, particularly for post-exposure prophylaxis in wound management and routine booster doses. The vaccine received marketing approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in December 2023.
