Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Colirofta Anestésico Doble is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing two ester-type local anesthetics: tetracaine hydrochloride (0.1%) and oxybuprocaine hydrochloride (0.4%). It is primarily used in clinical ophthalmology to provide rapid, short-acting surface anesthesia of the cornea and conjunctiva. This anesthetic effect is essential for diagnostic procedures such as tonometry (measurement of intraocular pressure, critical for glaucoma monitoring), gonioscopy, and the removal of foreign bodies, as well as for minor surgical interventions. Both active ingredients act by reversibly blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, which inhibits the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. The combination of two different anesthetics is intended to provide a more robust and reliable anesthetic effect for clinical practice. The product is widely used in Spanish healthcare settings, including the Hospital Universitario De Torrevieja, for routine ophthalmic examinations.
