Overview

This is an investigational, single-dose intraluminal medicament formulation developed by Mackay Memorial Hospital for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection. The formulation consists of a combination of tetracycline (2g), metronidazole (2g), and bismuth subcitrate (480mg) in powder form. It is administered via an endoscopic procedure directly to the gastric and duodenal mucosa, a method known as Intraluminal Therapy for H. pylori Infection (ILTHPI). This approach is designed to deliver high local concentrations of antibiotics directly to the site of infection, potentially overcoming systemic resistance and patient compliance issues associated with traditional oral regimens. A Phase 4 clinical trial conducted in Taiwan evaluated its efficacy, particularly when used in conjunction with acid suppression therapy to maintain an intragastric pH above 4.
