Tetragalacturonic acid hydroxymethylester is a linear tetrasaccharide composed of four hydroxymethyl alpha-D-galacturonosyl residues linked sequentially (1→4). It is derived from apple pectin and functions as a local antihemorrhagic agent, with research suggesting it may inhibit fibrinolysis in vitro. Although it has been studied for its potential to stop bleeding, particularly by acting as an antifibrinolytic, it has not been used clinically. Its primary role is as a hematologic agent within the class of local hemostatics[1][3][4].
