It is currently being evaluated in the Phase 1 HIGH-CAP (High Potency Cannabis Effects) study, which investigates the acute and protracted pharmacodynamic effects of smoked cannabis at varying potencies (high and low dose THC) compared to a placebo. As a small molecule cannabinoid, THC acts as a partial agonist at the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, which are primarily distributed in the central nervous system and immune system, respectively. This research is specifically designed to understand the impact of high-potency cannabis in daily users during periods of regular use and following brief abstinence, rather than developing the compound for a specific therapeutic indication.
