The tetravalent enterovirus vaccine (Vero cell), inactivated, is a multivalent vaccine candidate developed by Beijing Minhai Biotechnology, a subsidiary of Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products. It is designed to provide broad protection against hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and herpangina by targeting four major enterovirus serotypes: Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71), Coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16), Coxsackievirus A6 (CV-A6), and Coxsackievirus A10 (CV-A10). The vaccine is produced using Vero cell culture technology, where the viral strains are cultivated, harvested, purified, and subsequently inactivated with formaldehyde. This approach addresses the limitations of existing monovalent EV71 vaccines, which do not protect against other coxsackieviruses that have increasingly become dominant causes of HFMD outbreaks. The vaccine is typically formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity.
