TetraVax-DV is a lyophilized, tetravalent, live-attenuated chimeric vaccine developed to prevent dengue disease. It contains attenuated strains of all four dengue virus serotypes and is designed to induce immunity against each. The vaccine was originally formulated by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has been licensed for production in several countries including Brazil (Butantan Institute), India (Biological E/Panacea Biotec), and Vietnam (Vabiotech). Merck & Co has also in-licensed the vaccine for further development. The mechanism of action involves immunostimulation—eliciting both humoral and cellular immune responses that mimic natural infection but without causing disease. Phase I studies have shown high rates of tetravalent seroconversion after a single dose with both TV003 and TV005 formulations[4][5]. The vaccine is being evaluated for use in endemic regions as well as among travelers or military personnel.
