TEV-296 is a biosimilar monoclonal antibody candidate being developed by Teva Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to be biosimilar to **pembrolizumab** (marketed as Keytruda), a blockbuster immune checkpoint inhibitor. TEV-296 targets the **programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)** receptor on T cells. By blocking the interaction between PD-1 and its ligands (PD-L1 and PD-L2), the drug prevents the downregulation of the immune system, thereby enhancing the body's ability to recognize and attack cancer cells. As of 2024, TEV-296 is in the preclinical stage of development, with the goal of providing a more affordable alternative for the various oncological indications currently treated by the reference product.
