TF037 is a low-volume, phosphate-free enema developed by Norgine for distal bowel cleansing prior to medical procedures such as flexible sigmoidoscopy or surgery. The formulation consists of macrogol 3350 (polyethylene glycol 3350) combined with electrolytes, including sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium chloride. As an osmotic laxative, TF037 works by drawing water into the distal colon, which softens the stool and stimulates a bowel movement. This phosphate-free approach is intended to mitigate the risks of electrolyte imbalances and renal toxicity associated with traditional sodium phosphate enemas (such as Fleet Enema), making it a potentially safer option for elderly patients or those with renal impairment. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to demonstrate its performance and safety in distal bowel preparation.
