TFC-039

**TFC-039** is a small molecule **SGLT2 inhibitor** developed by Sirona Biochem for the treatment of **type 2 diabetes mellitus**. It inhibits the **sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2)** in the proximal tubule of the kidney, promoting renal glucose excretion to lower blood glucose levels independently of insulin. Preclinical studies demonstrate superior duration of action compared to canagliflozin (effective at 1 mg/kg up to 48 hours post-dose), excellent oral bioavailability, and a high maximum tolerated dose (>800 mg/kg/day). Wanbang Biopharmaceuticals advanced it to Phase 1 in China but discontinued further development in 2021; Sirona retains global rights and is seeking partners for human and veterinary applications, including companion animal diabetes and chronic kidney disease.[1][2][3][4][5][7][17]
